CASE STUDIESAutism AspectEstablishing Positive PartnershipsThe ‘Helping Children with Autism’ project, funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), was developed to improve the educational outcomes for school-aged children with autism spectrum disorders. Workstar’s eLearning solution delivers online training to teachers, schools, parents and carers in collaboration with AAETC (Australian Autism Education and Training Consortium) through the Positive Partnerships program.
Challenge AAETC had a diverse range of audiences that required support including teachers, parents and carers. Working with AAETC, Workstar collaborated with a variety of academic and autism experts to develop accurate and effective training materials for these key groups.
Solution Workstar created easy-to-use online training modules to build knowledge, skills and expertise of those working with students. Workstar also designed and implemented interactive self paced learning modules for parents and carers to help them work in partnership with their child’s school to improve their learning outcomes.
In an Australian eLearning first, we also developed innovative discussion boards within the modules for teachers to encourage collaboration and the sharing of ideas and experiences.
Results After the first six months there are over 10,000 users registered with over 7000 engaged in the online learning courses. Autism Aspect has generated significant interest amongst other Autism group in the Asia Pacific region and as stated by Julie Hook, Director of AAETC, “this level of interest and activity has exceeded all expectation of the project sponsors”.
This project was recognised for its innovation and effectiveness in winning gold for Best Partnership in a Training Program at the 2010 LearnX Awards, Australia’s best regarded annual eLearning awards. This accolade is a testament to the excellent working relationship that the Workstar team establsihed with our client.
